With Patience Anything is Possible
Patience is one of the hardest virtues to develop. It has never been easy to be patient, and it’s even harder in this high technology world. We are in a world where messages and information can be sent across the world instantly. We don’t write letters or talk on the phone because it’s not fast enough. We want everything to be just a click away.
Yet, patience is a virtue that can and should be nurtured over time, so that you may stick around for your goals and dreams. As Wiktionary very appropriately puts it, ” A patient seeker will be satisfied in due time; patience is a virtue. The more common form of this proverb today being, “good things come to those who wait.”
In today’s post, I would like to be very candid about my struggle with patience. I want patience and I want it now! As, I mentioned last week, my home life is very chaotic right now. My new home is under construction, so I am very demanding of my husband to make sure he is pushing our construction crew to finish NOW! He was born with this virtue, he is cool and collected. I, on the other hand have always felt that if I develop this virtue to perfection, I would find more peace in my life.
In this post I would like to share how I am approaching patience in a proactive not reactive approach with these three simple steps.
1. Breath and Smile
2. Enjoy the Journey
3. “Let it Go,” like Elsa, from the Frozen Disney Movie
Breath and Smile
As I am facing unexpected financial situations that arise from the deconstruction of my new home, I have to remind you and myself to breath. I would suggest that you take three to five deep breaths, when you are in a stressful situation that requires patience. Imagine your stress leaving your body with every exhale. Picture a happy ending to whatever is causing you stress and don’t forget to smile.
Enjoy The Journey
In any project or situation that requires your patience it’s important to focus on those minor baby steps. Make your goals small and simple. Take it a day at a time. In my big reconstruction project I have decided to approach it a room at a time. This helps me stay positive with minor successes not the whole home. I celebrate when I see paint on the walls of each individual room and try not to overwhelm myself with the many other things that are still undone.
Sometimes You Just Have To Sing, “Let It Go.”
Things that may seem like the end of the world right now or in any moment will also pass (I promise). Nothing is forever! Stressing about a situation that you have no control over does not make it better. Ask yourself these questions will this matter to me, a year from now? In my death bed? I have also learned to stop being a perfectionist and a control freak. Do the best you can with what you have, and “Let it go!”
Patience is one of the most important virtues that you may acquire. Don’t forget to always practice your breathing and to smile to get you to focus on positive thoughts. You must also enjoy the journey more than the destination and when all fails you must learn to,”Let it go,”like Elsa! Also you must never forget that, “good things come to those who wait.” So, be patient.
